There are many benefits associated with resveratrol, though they are mostly correlated to the compound rather than directly linked to the consumable supplement. A few of these health benefits include:
- antioxidant effects on free radicals
- anticancer effects
- cardioprotective effects
- neuroprotective effects
- anti-inflammatory activity
Resveratrol is a nutrient and antioxidant found in several plant species and especially in the skin of blue grapes. Resveratrol supplements that are commercially available are mainly isolated from Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum). This plant has been used traditionally in Chinese medicine. The Japanese knotweed is besides resveratrol rich in vitamin A and many minerals.
Production process to Resveratrol Capsules
The shoots of the Japanese knotweed are harvested in April, with a length of between 15 and 25 centimeters. From the Japanese knotweed the resveratrol is extracted and then ground into a powder. This powder is then processed to get resveratrol capsules.
